On this day, February 5, 1911, our good neighbor, the former and second capitol building, was struck by lightning at 6:15 pm and was a total loss. Monsignor Selinger viewed the inferno from the front porch of the Rectory. The next day, he offered the Governor use of St. Peter’s facilities. The Missouri House of Representatives accepted and the final 6 weeks of the session were held in our school in the large room that is today our school library. The current capitol building began in 1913, was completed in 1917, and dedicated in 1924. This is when our venerable school earned the title of “Ninth Capitol of Missouri.”
